Does anyone get that feeling that somehow, through some measure that everything seems to be working out?

For the past little while, I feel as though things in my life are not as out of control or beyond my means. For example, a few days back I got a raise at work, I have been compressing my time to do as much stuff as I can in a short amount of time. School/Work/School-Work/Getting my ass readying for the next summer (Which I'll describe below) all seem to be in my means.

As well, I also plan to start volunteering for 'Foot Patrol' at Carleton to pass the time on Monday nights.

As for next summer, my plan (God I hope this works out) is to do a working holiday overseas. For 3 or 4 months I plan to be overseas working where ever I can for the sheer experience of it. Sure I may not make much, if any money. But the sheer knowledge that I could very well be overseas doing something is enough justification for myself.

Well, Frosh week came and went... yet again.

This year was different though, instead of being a new Froshy nervous about a new environment and being away from their parents, I was a Facil who would get them psyched up and excited about the week.

As much as I would like to recall the entire week to you in great detail, I don't think there would be time for me to do that. The week as it were lasted about a week and a half technically, full of getting home at 2/3 am and waking up at 7/8 to do it all over again. By the end of the week we were all exhausted and were waiting to go home to our own beds and not the hard floors in which we all grabbed quick power-naps when we could.

As for pictures, well I took over 150 during the week so while I would like to post that, it would take me awhile. However, for those of you with 'Facebook' (I know, I've been suckered into using it). All the pics and then some have been posted.

But for a quick summary - Everyone should do it. I mean everyone should become a Facil, you get to experience Frosh week, meet new people (Frosh/Facils alike) and besides. Everything is more interesting and Fun when you're reaching the bare minimal amount of sleep.

If my next summer goes according to plan, I hope to do this again. As should everyone.

The summer season of movies are over (For the most part) and yes, my list for the fall is already starting.

Catch a Fire
http://latinoreview.com/films_2006/focusfeatures/catchafire/largetrailer.mov
I'm usually a fan of these conspiracy films.

The Last King of Scotland
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/thelastkingofscotland/trailera/
I *heart* Forest Whitaker

The Fountain
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thefountain/trailer1/large.html
Probably the one I'm looking forward to the most.

The Departed
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thedeparted/trailer1b/
Martin Scorsese. Both films show the invasion of Iwo Jima however 'Flags of our Fathers' show it from the US side and 'Letters from Iwo Jima' from the Japanese side. Both of them were directed by Clint Eastwood.

Here is a link to a website with the trailer though it's dubbed (ish) in Japanese, so some parts may not be understood.
http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/iwojima-movies/trailer/large.html

Last weekend saw a family reunion take place at our cottage. Basically it meant that about 30 people showed up from Toronto/Montreal/Nova Scotia people and an Uncle living somewhere in England.

It also meant that beer was consumed. A LOT of beer was consumed by everyone.

Here is some purdy pics from that weekend

Pic of people's feet with the sunset illuminating them

Sunset standing from the dock

Same sunset, different position. Looks like a distant forest fire

TEH BOAT RACES!!!!1
That's right - Every year there is some corn roast/boat race. As much corn as you can eat for free along with buying food like hotdogs/hamburgers/drinks (Beer and non-alcoholic) and more. As for the boat race there are usually six teams and they have about 3/4 hours to construct a boat to race around a course with two sheets of plywood, some wood and some chaulking. All the boats made it in the water and most made it around the course besides two or three which sank about halfway through.

It was a blast.

Sunset as taken when I was canoeing around

The sky after the sunset.
I just discovered two really sweet things:

1. I have the chance to win a 1995 Pontiac Firebird at the start of September. K-Rock played my Sizzlin' Summer Six-Pack. The automatic $25 gift certificate was used to purchase a 'Buddy Christ' figurine.

2. I also have the chance to win a 'Nikon D 50 digital SLR camera package'. In other words - A package which amounts to about $1000. I E-Mailed my pics awhile back and when checking the page of those few which are selected to move on, my picture was the top of the page. Sweet! Though the competition does look pretty stiff if I must say. But regardless - Yay!

Here is the picture which has graced me with this great fortune:

    <lj:music>Sting - Shape Of My Heart</lj:music>

I was watching this B5 episode a few weeks back and in between the war between the Shadows/Everyone else. The creators kept cutting back to this scene and here is the monologue which ensues. It is someone who just got stabbed breaking up a fight and as he is laying there, he 'meets' himself and they have a pretty frank discussion.

Steven Franklin - "You know what your problem is? All your life you've run away from everything. Home didn't work out, wouldn't talk to your father, so you just .. walked away. You didn't have the patience for a long internship back home, so you just ran out and started hitch-hiking on starships. You didn't want to turn over your precious notes on Minbari biology during the war, so you just burned them instead and walked away again. You used work to run away from your personal life and stims to run away from your work. And right now, you are running away from everything. Don't you die on me yet. I'm not through with you. You finally had it all, didn't you? You had a good job, people who cared about you and you messed it up! 'I have to leave before they fire me. I have to go find myself.' What a bunch of mealy-mouthed self-indulgent foundationist crap! Take responsibility for your actions, for crying out loud. You go in there and you fight for what matters to you, don't just walk away because it's easier. What did you say? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot. You are too busy dying, aren't you? I guess that's a bit more important to you right now. Well, fine, you do what you want, because you and I, we parted ways a long time ago. So just go ahead and die, because I really don't care anymore."

Too bad the actor who did this died a year ago from a heart complication.

    <lj:music>Dispatch - Open Up</lj:music>

So, here is my little adventure with blood giving yesterday.

I did all the usual sign ups and the usual checkouts to make sure my blood wasn't at risk.

The real fun started when I was in the chair. They asked which arm would I like to give blood from, I said right (I didn't care - No preference). So, they do the usual cleaning method and they finally put the needle in me.

Nothing is happening.

Usually blood is supposed to be coming out at this point but the nurse is standing there a bit dumbfounded. At this point my arm is burning (Iodine + Alcohol do not mixed well with the blood work). So, she takes the needle out, tapes a band aid around me and gets another nurse. Another one comes over does the cleaning to my left arm and sticks the needle in me again.

Again, nothing happens. Now I've got two nurses standing there looking at yet another missed vein. Eventually the second nurse takes the needle out and tries yet again. She finds the vein on the third try but since she withdrew the needle it comes in contact with the cleaning stuff around the hole. So, even though I'm giving blood, I've got two arms which are burning and itching a bit.

They're fine now, but what an experience (I also experienced that even with a pint of blood less in me, and cheap Jaggerbomb shots, I still can't get drunk).

Well, yesterday saw my return to K-Town - For a glorious 3 and a half hours. But there was a reason.

I awkoe at 4:30 am to go to Fallowfield to catch a 6:20 train to K-Town. The reason for the early return - My G test. That's right, instead of waiting until I would be in K-Town to take it, I had to schedule it because my G2 license expired about 2 days ago, so I was on borrowed time (And a temporary extended license via the MTO).

I got the license - Though it was odd my parallel parking on a Cul-Du-Sac - So, I got docked marks for not being parallel or something like that.

But in the end - It all balanced out.

I then went back to Ottawa so I could work that night (That's right - I didn't book it off - Smart move). When I got the train station I went in the underground tunnel and when I came up on the otherside the train was about 50 meters away from the boarding platform - If that doesn't say anything about lucky timing I don't know what will.

Came back to Ottawa and I worked and on July the 30th, we're having a party blowout for a waitress who is leaving (She's worked there for about 5 years) to go to Vancouver to start an alternative female magazine. She's really cool and sweet, I hope it all works out.

But I shall leave you with two things. One is a Spiderman 3 poster - The second is an advert for the new 'Shield' season - I'm stoked. Damn shame that Michael Chiklis and Forest Whitaker didn't receive an emmy nomination - But then again a lot of people think this way and are disappointed with the Emmy nominations.

Spiderman 3.
http://www.superherohype.com/news/featuresnews.php?id=4496

The Shield - Season 6.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmh07_H1YHA

Well - The Canada Day long weekend has come to pass.

Thank god.

This will cover from about Friday to about now.

Anyway, on Friday I was working Sautes and from what I can remember - It really didn't go that badly. Trying to think back to it now and I'm drawing all kinds of blanks.

Moving on since my memory is apparently shot to hell on that day.

Saturday - The real shit starts. Canada Day! Anyway, I show up and we're fucking being pounded so without punching in I jump into the fire on QSA (First shift in like 3 weeks) and we're all given her. I mean, we got extra people working everywhere and we're flying through plates like no ones business. Though there were times where waiters and waitresses came back and complained that food was taking too long. We basically brushed them asides. It's Canada Day - 20 mins meal times are a dream at that point. The rush continued until about 9:50-9:55 since the fireworks started at 10:05. So with no orders we were slowly getting stocked for the next rush but in the mean time a bunch of us went to the roof (Shhh! The managers would flip if they found out) to watch the fireworks (It had a nice view). All around we could see people on roofs and next store at the cabin they had an outdoor dance thing so myself and a few guys from the line were up on the roof and dancing to the music. Hell, we had a crowd who would cheer us on. Needless to say, we got back down, had to get through the rush. Too sum up the rest of the night: Free Beer/Cheap Beer/Equally Drunk People/Loads of people around.
It was fun

Today/Sunday - Goddamn Gong show. The QSAers sucked, people moving around, no one knew what the hell anyone was doing. 600 tables and an hour meal time. That is unexcusable. Everyoneone shared that sentiment - Cooks, Apps, the managers, everyone. Oh well - Somehow I managed to get an inch and a half 2nd degree burn on my arm without actually knowing how/when/where I got it.
After work, while waiting for the 97 - There was some preacher basically saying (Yelling really) that everyone is going to die and everyone is ignorant. I yelled back at some points, it seemed to stump him for a bit.

So yeah, there is my glorious 3 day weekend. I'm going to bed.

P.S. I also went home for the night and hung out with Anne/Devon and Georde. It was a blast.

I've recently fallen in love with the 'Battlestar Galactica: Season Two' tracks entitled 'Prelude to War' and 'Reuniting the Fleet'. My surprise is I heard 2 and a half minute demo for 'Prelude' and about a minute and a half for 'Reuniting'. When I heard the demos months ago, I thought it was the entire song. Since it had a beginning/middle/and an end. No crappy fadeouts or anything. What I got was what I thought was the song

Well, needless to say when I heard both songs (Prelude clocked it to be about 8:26 mins and 'Reuniting' clocked in to be about 2:50). I was shocked to hear the additions. Not in a bad way either. 'Reuniting' added more strings and a few more penny-whistles. 'Prelude' added what can be best described as 2 more acts within the song. The first act is what I've listened too. The second has some really interesting string work and the third is the climax or it all.

Yes, I do love my soundtracks - Couldn't you tell?

Anyone up for it, I could send those two songs ('Reuniting' is a fun track - Though I'd probably send you the song 'Wander My Friends' for a better idea).

Update - Well, I found out yesterday that I'm a Facil for the 'Jailbird' group. Of the names listed on the CUSA website for that group, it looks like that there is a 2:1 girl to guy ration. Nice.

    <lj:music>Joe Cocker - Feeling Alright</lj:music>

Anyway, this past week has seen the constant movement of me to Kingston/Ottawa/Kingston/Elgin/Portland/Ottawa.

Through some odd work schedule, I was only going to work three days last week so I decided to go home. So, I met up with some friends, saw a movie, came back to Ottawa since I had something to do. Friday I went back to K-Town, met up with Devon after he finished work and walked around downtown for a bit. Wow, they've done a lot of work in the downtown core. For example, instead of paved streets, it looks like they're turning it all (pavement) into brick and cobble stone. Very nice to look at.

Anyway, so the weekend, it was off to the cottage(s). Helped here and there at mine, then a few hours later, it was off to Anne's place for some crazy youngen-hijinx.

To sum it up best it basically consisted of about ten 20-yr olds (Give or take a few years) at a cottage (Crap weather outside - Windy/Cold/Raining) having lots of access to beer and a trip to the Hersey Factory (I do love the rejected chocolate). So, the evening was basically us talking/drinking, having a good time, eating some very nice BBQed chicken. At some point singing outside did happen via whatever we knew by Sublime/Dispatch/Great Big Sea/Ben E. King and any other song we could remember and somewhat sing to.

However, 'all good things must come to an end' (Q) and today I was awakened at about 6 am (Okay, I was up before hand since the sun was facing me) for some lovely pancakes which Anne made and at about 7:15 that morning I was driven to Portland to catch a bus to Ottawa.

Here are some pictures taken during the weekend:

Sara and Anne both showing off the groups collective bottle cap bucket. Now, this is a bad shot to show how much we drank, but needless to say between the lot of us, we didn't do too badly.

Alright, so Jeff decided to take a walmart bag and tear it in half. We then decided that it would look better in the beer I just finished for a bit of 'class'.

Alright, this was right after our little singing adventure outside, where Derrick took Anne and turned her upside down. Now, this picture is cool, but keep in mind that no one knew I was going to take a picture - Hence the squinting of the eyes. Not quite sure what Anne was doing there...

At my exploits at 'The Keg' I have managed to acquire three nicknames. Bear in mind that they call me by my first 'Real' name - William and as such, all nicknames are variations on that.

Will.I.Am

Big Willy Style - This has usually been shortened down to 'Big Willy' if guys on the line need me to do something (Run/Prep/Throw on Heat etc). Though, I do like the double meaning of that nickname. Nhehehehe...

I do believe my favourite though:
William Wallace - Now honestly, who could go wrong with a Kilt wearing scottish warrior. Remember that True men wear Kilts.

As for my life beyond witty nicknames. The cat we believe is in Heat (That movie has an incredible shootout). Yes, the cat is hitting that time when she needs to learn about the birds and the bees. In other words - Keeping her trapped in the house so we can figure out what to do with her.
I've forgotten what it's like to work 12 hours in a restaurant. Now, I'm sure office people would have a different form of stress if they're working for 12 hours - But in a restaurant it is pure physical stress to push yourself further and mental to not break down from the being in a place for far too long. It's fun though - Highly recommended.
I think I may go home this week for a few days, first time since reading week. Now the question is should I tell the parental units about it or wait. Regardless though, this weekend will seen me at a cottage on the Rideau (Beyond Smiths Falls), drinking with friends. It shall be mint (If the plans hold up, they should though).

Now, I am going to take the garbage out, so I shall bid you adieu.

It has been awhile since I've updated this. For that I apologize.

Exams are over and the summer is here. The house as of late has been pretty quiet. Michelle is moving out in a few hours, so the house will be down to four - Three is Venna (sp?) is out to her boyfriends place.

Work has been just as busy as ever. Through the various scars, burns and lack of arm hair - They've scheduled me for a 6 day work week - I got no complaints though, whatever I can get, I'll take.

The summer in my my world, involves lots of blockbuster movies that are coming out to satisfy people's need for explosions, gunshots and the like. In particular I am awaiting the arrival of Pirates of the Caribbean II, Superman Returns (I've got faith in the director and his run in movies), X3 - Possibly, I've always been on edge about this. And yes, you may laugh this one up, but Miami Vice (Again - The track record of the director, so there is faith).

But in the past few weeks I've had drunken nights which I've got home in the morning, work, exams, hanging out with people and in one case - a lot of unanswered questions to which I shall not bore you on the details. My next step is to go back to K-Town sometime, though it's looking bleak in the next while.

I shall leave you with a dialog at the end of the movie 'Boondock Saints' - To which is a very interesting movie both in terms of how it was made and of the story.

Connor: Now you will receive us.

Murphy: We do not ask for your poor, or your hungry.

Connor: We do not want your tired and sick.

Murphy: It is your corrupt we claim.

Connor: It is your evil that will be sought by us.

Murphy: With every breath, we shall hunt them down.

Connor: Each day we will spill their blood, 'til it rains down from the skies.

Murphy: Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace.

Connor: These are not polite suggestions, these are codes of behavior, and those of you that ignore them will pay the dearest cost.

Murphy: There are varying degrees of evil. We urge you lesser forms of filth, not to push the bounds and cross over, in to true corruption, into our domain.

Connor: For if you do, one day you will look behind you and you will see we three, and on that day you will reap it.

Murphy: And we will send you to whatever god you wish.

Connor, Murphy, Il Duce: And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be, In Nomine Patris, Et Filii, Et Spiritus Sancti.

So, I went to go see 'Inside Man' on Friday.

And, don't you hate it when there are serious parts to a movie and people are laughing away?

In the movie, as per every Spike Lee movie, there is a social-commentary added in it. This could be in part of Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Ethnicity among others. <lj:music>Bear Mccreary - Roslin and Adama</lj:music>

Well, another weekend done and over with, another year tacked on to my collection.

Yes, this passed weekend saw Neill turning from 20 to 21. Now I'm legal everywhere and oddly enough this transition didn't me as hard as 19 to 20, so I have no complaints. As well, this past weekend was quite busy.

Think about this weekend as being parallel to what happened at the house here, since I wasn't home that much.

Friday (St. Patties Day) saw me working my first shift at "The Keg". It was great, it took me damn near no time to learn where everything goes, I started to know people's name. Plus, on top of all that, we all have to wear chef's shirt, with black paints, so we all look very official like in the kitchen. I'm sure they won't mind if I wear my "Chez Piggy" baseball cap.

So anyway, after work, I ran (Really, I did) to rideau to catch the last bus to Carleton (For Free! Bus driver couldn't care, it was his last run). Bus left Rideau at about 1, got to the school at about 1:30/1:40, got home by about 2 am, and just crashed.

Saturday (B-Day!), I awoke at 9 and less then half an hour later, I started to walk downtown (And yes, I had a purpose this time around). Got downtown, read the papers I picked up, did some readings and off to the Albert St. movie theater to see "V for Vendetta" (I'll write something on it later, but regardless, it was quite amazing). By the time everything was good and done, I got home by 3 maybe just to see people heading out to their movie. The rest of the night consisted of me drinking excess beers in my fridge and coolers, while properly inducting the 5-Beer pint glass into life.

Sunday saw the celebration of both Erin (Who wasn't around) and Andrew whose family brought cake for the lot of us and while people were swimming, I stayed in to see "Finding Forrester" and to touch-up the Art's Chair with symbols and quotes scattered on it.

All in all, it was a very good, enjoyable weekend. Here is a monologue (One of a few) from "V for Vendetta", I believe it was the first proper introduction between Evey and V.

V: This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

So, I walk to Merivale Road, no big surprise or anything special there. Anyway, I turn left and keep on walking. I pass three things which catch my eye. 1) A two-level bowling place 2)Black Light Golf Course 3) "Silver Dollar" - And yes, it was a strip joint.

Anyway, I keep on walking and walking, past those, past the businesses, past the houses to (get this) the END of the Merivale sidewalk. And then I see bright lights over to my right which is none other then Fallowfield! In fact, Fallowfield was closer to me then my house was, so after staying at an intersection debating if I could take a cab/bus it back, I turn left and walk to Prince of Wales which I take all the way back to my house. Regardless, I was lost and way beyond where I thought I would end up.

Goodbye Merivale road, hello ... Where the fuck am I again?

And yes, here is the intersection of Merivale and Fallowfield. I didn't know this existed until that night.

Here is a map of the area so you know where I'm coming from. The light blueish colour is where I walked last weekend, and the red is where I walked last night. (We live close to the first 'a' in canal)

In all fact, I was pushing my own boundaries, I was way beyond the "Red-Line". I wanted to turn around and go the other way, or take a bus home, but I pushed myself to go on, to see the end. I left the house at 10:00 pm, got back by about 2:00 am.

I don't think I'll take the same route again since there was nothing there in case I did get injured.

Oh yeah, I dropped a resume off to "The Keg" and after looking at it, the manager (Who heard of Chez Piggy) told me to come in to meet with the chef for an interview this Wed.

I think I just found the find of a lifetime.

It's called "FMR" - Film Music Radio.

Anyway, if you're a film nerd like me, then you will definitly enjoy this website. It's basically film soundtracks played 24/7. I wrote an entry on this way earlier (http://theshoulder.livejournal.com/11628.html)

In the course of me typing this I listened to the "Cantina Song" from Star Wars IV, and "Truth" from Serenity. Now I'm listening to Jerry Goldsmith (R.I.P.).

I just wanted to come in and mention that. Here's the link to the website for those interested.

http://www.filmmusicradio.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=aa361e45533650d492079c3d7ed62d4a

When's the last time anyone has just stopped and looked at (Of all things) frost and ice formations?

I'd like to use the term "Stop and smell the roses" but I'm not going to kid you. Everything is dead, if you find roses outside a greenhouse, I salute you. So, go with what we Canadians know and love best, but with the weather conditions of winter.

Yesterday, Coons and I spent about two hours trying to get his car unstuck from an ice formation at the end of the driveway (Stupid snow plows. I would've shovelled the next day. I swear!). While Cait was bashing the shit out of her windows (There was about 5 mm of ice everywhere). We eventually got Coons jack out of his trunk and started to raise his car for easier access. By the end of it, I was losing feeling to my hands and toes. So after a very painful hot shower, all was well.

Edit - Well, apparently ImageChack has changed since the last I used it. So because I'm partially lazy, and am working on an essay (I've finished about half of it), I'll have to update it later with pics form the waterfalls and the frost.

Later.

    <lj:music>Whitesnake - Here I go Again.</lj:music>

So, over the weekend, a little bomb was dropped on me, by that of a breakup via MSN (I'm just glad it got out in the open, rather then caring about the medium used).

Yes, Neill has fallen into the ranks of being a bachelor, but the transition between Saturday night and now has been tough. For those of you who have had the misfortune of breaking up with someone whom you do deeply care about know where I'm coming from. Needless to say, I'm not going to reiterate why it happened (Personal stuff, I think you know where I'm coming from with that).

It's one of those moments where you just sit (Or stand) and just wonder what exactly was the catalyst, or the reason behind it, and those thoughts are never fun to continually think over. I know that in time, it will end, the questioning will stop (At least to a certain degree) and acceptance (too a limited degree) will happen.

But, FUCK! The gorram pain involved is one you don't want to experience and now I can understand why people say they don't want to date for awhile, or be single for a time.

Anyway, I gotta go to my fabulous 7 hours of classes straight now. And a film test to top it all off.
